The vision of the Chadds Ford Historical Society is to be the finest community historical society, preserving the history and interpreting the life and times of the Chadds Ford area. The society aspires to be known for providing excellent educational opportunities to visitors, schools and residents, as well as being an active supporter of and a focal point for community activities.

Our mission is to preserve the properties, records and artifacts, to interpret the history and to educate the public concerning the way of life in the Chadds Ford area with emphasis on the 18th century.

Helpful Tips

  1. Stop by the Chadds Ford Historical Society's Visitors Center to purchase/pick-up tickets.

  2. The tour is self-paced...meaning that you visit each site on your own schedule.

  3. Three sites are in one location: Visitors Center, Springhouse and John Chads House. The Barns-Brinton House is a short drive away south on Baltimore Pike. Maps will be available.

  4. Parking is provided at each location. 

  5. The event is rain or shine (or snow). In the event of severely inclement weather, check this website or our Facebook page for updated event information.

  6. Wear comfortable, waterproof walking shoes and warm clothing. No heels, please. Be careful on stairways and brick walkways as these may be slippery. Unfortunately, the historic buildings are not wheelchair accessible. 

  7. Bring a flashlight for walking at dusk.

  8. No strollers or backpacks are permitted in the historic buildings.

  9. Please help us maintain these historic structures by making sure your shoes are clean before entering the buildings.

  10. Please refrain from touching any objects in the buildings.

  11. Photography is permitted unless otherwise stated at a tour location.

  12. Restrooms are available at the CFHS Visitors Center.

  13. Smoking is strictly prohibited in and around all historic structures.

To the Chadds Ford Historical Society Visitors' Center

 

From Concordville

Follow Route 1 (Baltimore Pike) toward Chadds Ford/Route 202 for about 3.5 miles (crossing over Route 202). Get in the right lane after crossing Route 202. Turn right at Creek Road. Continue for approximately 1/8 mile to the Visitors Center parking lot on the left.

 

From Kennett Square

Follow Route 1 (Baltimore Pike) toward Chadds Ford/Route 202 for approximately 6 miles. Get in the left lane. Turn left at Creek Road. Continue for approximately 1/8 mile to the Visitors' Center parking lot on the left.

From Wilmington, Delaware

Take Route 202 North to Route 1 (Baltimore Pike). Turn left onto Route 1 toward Chadds Ford. Get in the right lane. Turn right at Creek Road. Continue for approximately 1/8 mile to the Visitors' Center parking lot on the left.
